Jun 8, 2023 · 0w20 has a higher top-end oil pressure, which means it will lubricate the engine better at high speeds and RPMs. 0w40 has a lower top-end oil pressure, which gives it the benefit of low-speed protection. 2. Cold weather viscosity. 0w20 has a lower cold weather viscosity, which means it flows easier when the temperatures are colder.Jan 8, 2007 · At full operating temperature the viscosity difference between the average 20 and 30 wt. oils is nil. At 120 F and below the 20 wt. oils out perform the 30 wt. oils. It takes a good 10 to 15 minutes of driving to get the oil temperature up to 120 F even though your water temperature gets up there in a minute or two.
Nov 16, 2012 · You can also make your own 0W-30 with Mobil 1 oils. Four quarts of 0W-20 plus one quart of 0W-40 makes a very light 30 grade that has better cold pumpability than Mobil 1's 0W-30. Perfect if you WANT a (light) 30 grade oil. Not so much if you need to document the use of a 30 grade oil for warranty purposes.
Aug 17, 2018 · Therefore, 0W-20 cleans better than 5W-20 and leaves less deposits. However, the relative wear performance of 0W-20 vs. 5w-20 is more debatable. It's also one reason why German Castrol and Mobil 1 European Formula are 0W-30 and 0W-40, respectively, instead of 5W-xx -- European engines require better cleaning. See the section under solubility.
